Restauration is always preceeded by analysis. As such, Correggio's Madonna of Saint Sebastian was extensively examined. The results are not only of interest to the restorers. They reveal what lies beneath the layers of paint. They tell of disappearing arrows, added forehead curls, pigments derived from insects, and much more.
