Raiders of the Lost Mind - Mischief and Insubordination in GDR Puppet Shows 28. November 2024

As part of the Kontrapunkte project, Sylvie Kürsten and Zinnober director Steffen Reck have made a film for us about Die Jäger des verlorenen Verstandes ("Raiders of the Lost Mind") and its reception. It features not only the people from “Zinnober” and the puppet theater collection, but also a former president of the German Bundestag, who, like so many GDR citizens, witnessed the play at the time and retains fond memories of it to this day. The puppets and stage from the play are now housed by the Puppet Theater Collection at Kraftwerk Mitte and can be seen there in the permanent exhibition.

Grüne Rückzugsorte ostdeutscher Künstlerinnen“ von Susanne Altmann entstand 2023 in vier ostdeutschen Gärten und zeigt, wie Systemverweigerung auch aussehen konnte. Vier Künstlerinnen schufen sich jeweils ländliche Refugien, in denen sie inspiriert und unbeobachtet arbeiten konnten und eigene Netzwerke knüpften. Mit Erika Stürmer-Alex, Amrei Bauer für Annemirl Bauer, Christa Jeitner und Christine Schlegel.

The poisonous mushroom and the Weinbergskirche: peace activism using a shooting target?

Starting in the 1970s, a type of artistic dialogue developed in East Germany that took place not in museums and galleries but, instead far from the world of public exhibitions, via the postal service. Soon after, the Dresden artist Birger Jesch launched what he called the “first Mail-Art Project of Dresden”, posting 300 cards featuring shooting targets to recipients around the world, for them to design and return.

THE FUTURE OF THE CANALETTO VIEW

The Canaletto view is probably the most famous city view of Dresden. What it will look like in the future is, of course, uncertain. A visit to the children's biennial "Planet Utopia" at the Japanisches Palais and also here on voices is a chance to see how artificial intelligence imagines the future of the famous city view. A team of students from TU Dresden has developed a format that we can use to give direction to AI's dream of the future.
