In a New Light

Unseen traces, surprising discoveries and fresh perspectives on old drawings: As part of a project to catalogue sixteenth-century Italian drawings in the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett, stories behind the sheets were revealed, hidden features uncovered, fragments reunited, and names put to previously anonymous works. The exhibition "In a new light. 16th-century Italian drawings reconsidered" presents selected findings from this multi-year research.

The Klemperer Collection

The “Art, Theft, and Restitution” project is dedicated to collectors who were persecuted, robbed, expelled, and murdered by the Nazis because of their Jewish faith. The von Klemperer family from Dresden is one such family. Here, we tell their story.

One for All

There was a time when it was almost everywhere. Today, you have to look a bit closer. But those who know it can still find it in all kinds of places: households, garages, workshops, and, of course, flea markets. Its name might appear a bit stilted, but, without a doubt, it's a true classic: the EW 1192.

Herkules Saxonici

Hardly any other mythical figure is as ubiquitous as Hercules. This is especially true in Saxony. Not only is his story told in many sculptures and paintings of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, but Augustus II the Strong also saw himself as the Saxon version of the hero, as "Herkules Saxonicus". Today, we encounter Hercules here in many different forms. On this map, we have marked the locations of these "Herkules Saxonici".
